238pp. Illustrated with 8 colour and 60 black & white photos by the author. Text in German.

Gift inscription from the author on half-title page dated 1958, Windhoek (South West Africa).

The author was a German zoologist who worked as director of the Berlin Zoo. Apart from writing numerous books on natural history he was also involved in the effort to reconstruct extinct prehistoric animals such as the aurochs through a method of cross-breeding various modern breeds of cattle that he suspected might retain parts of the original ancient genetic line. Today this breed is known as "Heck cattle". Heck joined the Nazi party in 1933 and became a close friend of Hermann Goering through their shared interest in hunting.

This title was translated into English in 1956 as Animal Safari. Big Game in South West Africa.
