Small bespoke hand-carved stone sculpture of a girdled lizard, possibly a Peers's Nama lizard (Namazonurus peersi) mounted on a larger piece of Malachite. Purchased as a souvenir from a Nama shepherd of the Richtersveld by Cape Piscatorial Society Exploratory Group member and mountaineer, E.J.Shelton during a prospecting trip to the confluence of the Fish River and Orange River in the early 1970's.
The Malachite is sediment tarnished from decades of sitting on a shelf, lending an aged patina. As such the sculpture has been left as is, uncleaned.
0.350kg combined weight
The Malachite stone's dimensions are 27mm (h) x 77mm (l) x 45mm (w)
Together with the mounted lizard sculpture the overall combined height is 65mm.
