An exciting work of travel, military experiences,
and big game hunting adventures by an officer in
the King's African Rifles. The author had to contend
with raiding Abyssinian tribesmen but found time to
hunt elephant, rhinoceros, and lion, particularly in the
Kerio Valley. Near the Ethiopian border, Lloyd-Jones was
severely wounded while fighting a band of raiders, with
gangrene setting into his foot. The "Havash" of the title
refers to the Arab word for Abyssinians, considered to be
ferocious fighters [Czech, An Annotated Bibliography
of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785-1950, p.87].
