See the images for Sir Abe Bailey's presentation on the free front end paper, General Louis Botha's bookplate on the front paste down and where he wrote his name on the page before the introduction.
Sir Abe Bailey was playing on the name of General Louis Botha's farm, "Rusthof", which means "Garden of Rest" when he finished his presentation with "Rust en Vrede???", which means "Rest and Peace???".
Original maroon coloured cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine. Black end papers. xiii prelims, 729 pages, 12 black and white plates.
CONDITION DETAILS: The bowing, or bend of the upper board was caused when the book was incorrectly packed in a large crate of books. I have placed it under a heavier book overnight which temporarily straightens it, but it needs to be put in a book press to permanently flatten the upper board. The black spot where General Louis Botha wrote his name was caused by the General's pen. Other than those flaws, this is a clean and attractive book with a little wear to the binding. See images.
