As its title implies, it is a factual account of events in South West Africa from the beginning of the nineteenth century when the first white men, the missionaries, arrived to convert the inhabitants to Christianity. The author, who has lived in the territory for almost half a century, brings this history right up to date. 

Extracts from the lively reports and the diaries of the early missionaries enable the reader to live with their sufferings and frustrations and to follow the hostilities between the various tribes inhabiting the territory.

The author gives a detailed account of the diplomatic conflict between Britain and the Germany of Bismarck which resulted in the German Occupation of the territory in 1883.

The history of the German Occupation, which ended in 1915, is dealt with comprehensively, as is the subsequent period of administration by the Mandatory Power - South Africa - leading to the still unresolved dispute between South Africa an U.N.O.'
