The original artwork for a 16 page advertising booklet produced by Horlick’s at the time of the Anglo-Boer War.

Each pen and ink drawing has been inset into a thick card leaf and elaborately bound in full crimson morocco with gilt decoration and titling on the upper cover and spine, the page edges are gilded. There is some light foxing on the drawings.

Title on upper cover: HOW SOUTH AFRICA WAS WON.

Size: 4to (280 x 235 mm)

Each drawing is signed on the mount by the artist Rowland Holyoake (c1850 – 1907) who was better known as a painter of portraits, figures, interiors, genre and landscapes.
