lxxix + 552pp + 32pp. Original pictorial and gilt decorated cloth hardcover. 1 x fold-out map and several woodcut-engravings.

A patch of cloth is torn from the cover, spine cracked, FC stained and mottled. Front EP gutter is cracked. Owners inscription neatly penned to back-side of frontispiece. Light random foxing throughout. Binding with fold-out map is in-tact. A fair copy of this extremely scarce and elusive book.

Stanley's account, starting off with his instructions to find and relieve Livingstone, organization of the expedition, troubles along the way, the journey itself, intercourse with Livingstone at Ujiji, further exploration of the north end of Lake Tanganyika, another journey from Ujiji to Unyanyembe, and finally homeward bound - Livingstons last words and the final farewell.
