First edition. 263 pages, frontispiece, 24 plates, folding map, original red cloth with black vignette of the head of a warthog on the upper cover, uncut fore-edge and bottom edge, the top edge is dyed red, titled gilt on the spine which is faded and has marks on it and simply repaired at the bottom of the spine and also at the hinges, corners bumped, a good copy.

Czech (Dr. Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, page 66: The author crossed the area north of Lake Albert, then into the Belgian Congo where he hunted elephant, rhino, hippos, hartebeest, bushbuck and other game in the Lado Enclave. There are especially interesting descriptions of encounters with cannibals, tramping through elephant grass and escaping an elephant stampede.
