"This is a story of real adventure. And it substantiates the tallest tales with the names of real men and real places. The author left England as a lad, in 1919. He became a storekeeper at the back of beyond, took a trading wagon through forgotten African kraals, learned to hunt with professional hunters, and found a secret diamond field. His partner died, leaving him, a mere boy, along with mutinous cannibal guides, in the heart of the Congo. They left him for dead, but he got back to civilization after months spent semi-naked and quite wild, like Tarzan of the Apes. White ants ate his entire savings. He joined the Rhodesian Mounted Police, and rode the veldt alone, chased withc-doctor murderers and settled native quarrels. Hairbreadth thrills with big game and murderous natives, accounts of lost treasures, elephant graveyards, the Leopard Men - we meet them all." .
