A remarkable history of South Africa, in 32 chapters, 568pp., offering a complete synopsis of all aspects of the country at the turn of the century, as well as photographs (b/w) including Constantia Vale, Simon's Town, Stellenbosch, Table Mountain, Hex River Valley, Parliament Houses, Kimberley Diamond Mine, Zulu War Memorials, Mount Edgecombe, portraits of President Reitz, President Brand, Cetywayo, etc.., The book is housed in its original russet boards which are marked (ink stain on rear cover) and bumped at the corners, inner hinges cracked, frontispiece fold-out map torn in half, Cape Town and Table Bay fold-out reasonably good (torn on one of the folds); binding throughout is in good condition, text good; but last gathering is loosely inserted (all pages present).
