During the last decades of the 19th century, Paarl became the centre of the wagon making industry in South Africa. Two of the biggest firms were owned by "Ryk Koos" Retief and P.B. de Ville. In 1895 these two firms amalgamated. This was their fifth joint catalogue. Includes ninety illustrations of the vehicles manufactured by the firm, including "Spiders", and various types of cart and buggy.
