There are five books in this job lot: 1) \"The South African Scene\" by Violet R. Markham. Original red cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine and in black on the upper board with a decorative device. New white end papers. viii prelims, 450 pages, followed by 2 pages of the publisher\'s advertisements. First published by Smith, Elder & Co., London, 1913. CONDITION DETAILS: There is some foxing/spotting throughout. The fore edge has been sanded, probably to remove soiling. Although the binding seems reasonably good, this book must have been re-cased as the end papers are obviousely new. 2) \"Impressions of South Africa\" by James Bryce. Original red cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine. Black end papers. xxix prelims, 604 pages, 3 fold out coloured maps. This is the January 1898 second edition published by Macmillan and Co.,London. CONDITION DETAILS: Reasonable, signs of use and ageing, pen name. 3) \"South of Suez\" by William J. Makin. Original red cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine. 286 pages, 27 black and white photographic illustrations. Not dated (First)published by Jarrolds, London. CONDITION DETAILS: Reasonably good. 4) \"Abroad and at Home\" by T.B. Glanville. Original dark red cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine. 12 prelims, 273 pages, frontis portrait of the author. Printed in London, published by Godlonton & Co, Cape of Good Hope,circa 1878. CONDITION DETAILS: Book detached from its covers. First two leaves loose and edge frittered. A reading copy only as it needs to be re-cased 5)\"British Africa\", which is the second volume of \"The British Empire Series.\" This volume contains a collection of papers by various authors. xiii prelims, 413 pages, folding chart, 4 folding maps, followed by 59 pages of the publisher\'s advertisements. First published by Kegan Paul,Trench, Trubner & Co., London, 1899. CONDITION DETAILS: The front end papers are soiled, browned, pen names and a library stamp. A fairly good working copy.
