Original tan coloured cloth boards with gilt titling on the spine and black titling on the upper board with a vignette of a leopard. Dark blue end papers. xvi prelims, 567 pages, 16 full page black and white illustrations including the frontis portrait of the author, 24 in text illustrations, a large folding colored map.
CONDITION DETAILS: The Halse family book plate on the front paste down. Robin Halse was well known in the hunting fraternity and his daughter, Jane, runs Rowland Ward Publications. Halse name stamp on free front end paper and a pen name on the title page. The binding is attactive, but has several signs of aging: The corners are bumped, spine ends worn plus a few small holes, a bit of soiling, a couple of stains on the rear panel, etc. Some of the pages must have been uncut when the book was purchased, and roughly opened - see close up image of opened pages - and as a result pages 217 to 222 have chips on the top edges. A couple of pages have a damp/water stain at the bottom corner, the most affected being the frontis - see image.
