xv, 413 pages, frontispiece, portraits, 11 plates, numerous black and white illustrations in the text, folding map, green pictorial cloth, titled gilt on the spine, which is faded and frayed at the top and the bottom, corners bumped.

Loosely inserted in the volume is a coloured photograph of his tombstone Col. Colin Harding who died on 3 January 1939.
