Dark green boards, some front-edge scuffing and a few tears at the top of the spine. The book is in Good condition, still tightly bound, some page foxing but Dolman's drawings, maps, sketches, fold-out maps and paintings in Very Good condition.

The diaries of a young man of courage, strength, determination and fixity of purpose on a number of travels and hunting expeditions in southern Africa. After his early death in 1851 his family did not release his papers and it was only after his brother's death that they were collected and published. In addition to his diaries, the Appendices include his findings on Bushman drawings; A letter to him with useful information from Captain Frank Vardon; Useful sentences in Sichuana; Recipes, verses and expenses.
