A scarce copy. The first monograph ever published about South Africa's most illustrious artist, Irma Stern.

Forms part of the Junge Kunst series (of which this is no.15) comprising more than 50 small monograph booklets published between 1919 and 1931. The series includes many famous artists of the period such as Picasso and Kandinsky.

Written by the famous Jewish journalist and art critic Max Osborn (1870-1946).

29 pages of letterpress (of which seven are translated into English); 32 full-page black and white reproductions of paintings. 

Condition: Good. Paper cover chipped and clipped. Masking tape was used to strengthen the spine. Tape marks on front and back cover. Text clean and clear and plates intact. Inscribed and dated '54.

Binding: Good. Original orange printed paper cover. Chipped at the top and bottom of the spine.
