The book posits the Nativity of Jesus, metaphysically speaking, and the paintings are therefore a modern prayer of faith. The book's first Nativity was Christmas 1998, the year of publication.
Claerhout moved to South Africa as a Catholic missionary in 1946. He started painting seriously after moving to Thaba Nchu in 1960. He has a unique style, incorporated items such as donkeys, sunflowers and figures of everyday people using vivid colours.
