A definitive and complete biography of South African art\'s best loved son, whose soaring mountains and skys, solitary thorn trees, and industrial mining landscapes are amongst the mostly highly prized works of any South African artist. His background as a draughtsman is evident in many of his landscapes, which take on clear structural shapes and dimensions, and a refined sense of perspective; and his delicate and light palette exhibit a truly unique touch. This copy is in excellent condition: book has clean end-papers, unmarked text, near fine condition,
with minor bump to top front corner, slight edge wear, and flap browning to both end-papers, as well as a few light brown spots on title page and frontispiece. Jacket: very good, with usual rubbing and minor marking (two deeper score marks on top left of rear panel), edge creasing (mostly top edge), and fine scattered foxing spots across entirety of inner (white) surface. A very good copy.
