Longmans, Green & Co, London, 1907. ( 2nd Impression ) Green Cloth, Gilt Design of Jock to the front board and Gazelle to the spine. Slight fade to the gilt. Light wear to the boards. Condition: Very Good, First Edition. Has a gift inscription on the front endpaper to Bob Cunliffe. The remaining pages are clean with NO writing, or other marks. . The dung beetle pushing with its front legs and the horse exiting a river bank vertically are still uncorrected in this 1st edition, 2nd impression.

The author, Percy Fitzpatrick later recounted these adventures as bedtime stories to his four children. Rudyard Kipling, a good friend of Fitzpatrick, also took part in these story-telling evenings and eventually persuaded him to collect these tales in book form.
