312 pages, wood engraved frontispiece and 10 wood engraved chapter head pieces, 3 wood engraved vignettes, maps illustrating Julius Caesar’s Campaigns as endpapers, full red crushed morocco, titled gilt on the spine and with gilt vignettes on the front and back covers, binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe, top edge gilt, other edges uncut, light foxing on the preliminary pages and occasionally in the text. Contained in a green cloth slip case – the cloth is dull and insect scarred.

Designed, produced, and published by Christopher Sandford at The Golden Cockerel Press, London. Composition and press-work by R. & R. Clark, Ltd., Edinburgh.

The Edition is limited to 320 numbered copies printed in Baskerville type on Arnold’s mould-made paper.

Signed on the colophon page in pencil by Somerset de Chair and Clifford Webb.

Somerset Struben de Chair, who was a Conservative member of parliament at the time of publication, dedicates this edition to Sir Winston Churchill. De Chair (1911 – 1995) author and bon-vivant, inherited part of his fortune from his maternal grandfather H.W. Struben the South African mining pioneer.
