Crown octavo (200 x 135 mm), original maroon cloth gilt, pp. xiv + (i) + 131, interleaved with unpaginated advertisements and blanks for note taking (barely used in this exemplar). South African Bibliography … to 1925, ii, p. 468: The first edition appeared without date around 1906. This, the 2nd edition (enlarged) was published in 1909. SABIB finds just three repositories for this edition.

Cloth lightly rubbed, spine faded, text browned (as always), ownership inscription dated Feb. 1911 on the half-title-page, a very few neat hand-written notes. In very good condition for a recipe book. No food stains or other ugly marks.‘The first cookery-book published in South Africa seems to have been A. G. Hewitt’s Cape cookery (1890). … Just after 1900 also appeared Oranje kook-, koek- en resepten-boek voor Zuid-Afrika by Mrs. D. J. H. (3rd ed. 1913) in Dutch, the Afrikaans edition of which dates from 1918.
