'This is a book on African big-game hunting by a famous Hungarian explorer. The author tells the story of a hunting expedition in Kenya, Tanganyika, and Uganda between 1932 and 1934. He and and his friends covered long distances on foot, by camel and by lorry in search of rare and good specimens of game. They were after elephant, lion, buffalo, and the little known bongo. But the expedition was not arranged with the sole object of bringing back the biggest possible bag, but also for photographing animals difficult to approach, and some of the most exciting incidents in the book are when the author is setting up his camera and photographing at close quarters when one false move would prove fatal. The ninety-six illustrations testify to his success.

Count Szechenyi does not travel everywhere with a large escort and a squad of motor trucks. He has usually only a few native porters and a tent. He is never far from the equator, and he has to undergo the hardships of the tropics - dampness, heat, insects, fever, and even cold. This is hunting with the gloves off.'
