The second and best edition of this work and the first with 12 fine hand coloured plates after J.G.  Keulemans. 890 pages. Bernard Quaritch. Large 8vo. In the original half-leather and buckram binding with gilt lettering on the spine, seemingly as published, with marbled endpapers and fore and lower edges uncut. Layard’s work was first published in 1867. This “New” edition was thoroughly revised and augmented by R. Bowdler Sharpe and was first issued in parts between 1875 and 1884. As per the description in Mendelssohn, pages 856-866 are missing in all copies. SABIB, Vol.3, Page 66.

A superior near fine copy. There are two minor abrasions of the leather towards the top of the front joint. There is a trace of foxing of a couple of prelim pages but not extending to the rest of the book and the text and plates are all fine. Lacking any inscriptions or annotations. Scarce in this state.

Please note that this is a heavy book and will incur increased costs for shipping abroad.
