Royal Welch Fusiliers chiefly relating events in Natal from Oct. 1899 to April 1900. Salt witnessed the battle of Colenso and reports comprehensively of other engagements in operations about the Tugela. Most of the correspondence pertains to military matters with some criticism expressed in respect of General Buller. Soon after the relief of Ladysmith the writer was taken ill with enteric fever He died at the base hospital near Modder Spruit on April 3rd, 1900. The last two letters are addressed to his father from an officer of the regiment'.
