The author trekked across South Africa from Port Elizabeth to the Transvaal and on to Botswana and the Northern Cape. Although mainly a hunting story, there are many valuable botanical and zoological notes on the region.
317 pp with frontis and two plates, as well as text illustrations. In original blind-stamped boards, faded gilt titling to spine; possibly the endpapers have been replaced at some stage. Top and bottom of spine shows minimal damage, as do corners of the boards. Two plates at rear of book have come adrift from the gutter at the bottom, but are still holding. Textblock in good, clean condition.
