First edition: 281 pages, frontispiece, 63 full page photographs, folding map at the back of the book, photographic end papers, photograph on end papers, uncut edges, red cloth titled gilt on the upper cover and spine, starting to wear at the front hinge and to fray at the top and bottom of the spine, a good copy.

Czech (Dr. Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, page 144: A popular title of its day that went through many printings. Martin and wife, Osa, followed, photographed and eventually bagged a few of the big cats in East Africa. The first chapter, on the dangers of lion hunting is perhaps the best.
