xiv +498pp. Pictorial Cloth Hardcover. Includes fold-out map. This South African issue was photo-reproduced from the first British edition in a small print run, reportedly of 1000 copies. It is a very attractive edition. The binding is very similar to the 1900 original, with the striking illustrated front cover. Moreover, this edition bears a yellow dust jacket that reproduces the front cover illustration.
Very good plus throughout.
This is Churchill's fourth book and the first of his two books based on his newspaper despatches sent from the front in South Africa. It was during this conflict that Churchill was captured by the Boers and made a daring escape that made him a celebrity and helped launch his political career.
