Interesting archive of letters and documents relating to Louis Botha, Vryheid and Advocate F.G.Katzenstein, comprising: 1.Original newspaper \"De Nieuwe Republikein - Vrijheid,ZAR\" 24 March 1892. 8pp. (Deel 1). With advertisement for F.G.Katzenstein on front page. Some wear but reasonable condition for a newspaper of this vintage. 2. 3pp. foolscap autograph letter headed \"Vryheid Z.A.Republiek, Jan 1893\" and addressed to one L.J. Meyer, Raadslid, Vryheid. In Dutch (not translated) and concerning council matters and appended by some 30 autograph signatures. 3. 1pp. foolscap autograph letter, addressed to \"My dear Katz\" (?Katzenstein), dated 1 Sept.1899. Concerning various issues and mentioning the impending war and a proposed conference in England about the war. Writer\'s signature illegible. 4. 2pp. 4to. neatly written autograph letter to General Louis Botha from one Edmond Brochon in Paris, dated August 14th. 1902. Concerning a previous correspondence sent to the Vryheid Pongola Syndicate via. Katzenstein but never delivered. This relates to a Wonderfontein farm and some monetary matters. 5.Nice 3pp.8vo.autograph letter from Louis Esselen (Secretary of the United Party)to \"My dear Katzenstein\" dated 8/5/06. This concerns some trouble he and Ewald Esselen (Advocate and Judge of the Transvaal Republic) are having with one \"D.J.E\" and suggesting how this should be dealt with. 6.Nice 2pp. als.to \"My dear Katzenstein\", dated 26.03.08, on Transvaal Legislative Coucil letterhead, regarding trading options on Hartbeestfontein. Sender\'s signature not identified. 7. Excellent 4pp. legal document, dated 24 July 1909, regarding money (\"one hundred and twenty two Pounds seven shillings and ninepence\") owed by the Vryheid Board of Executors and Trust Company to General Botha. It contains two full page statements by Louis Botha, clearly signed by him at the base of each page. In the second statement, he appoints Katzenstein to represent him in this matter. The document contains 4 nice cancelled Transvaal 2/6d. stamps and the ribboned seal of the Resident Magistrate in Pretoria on a statement of account. 8. Typed document in German, dated Hermannsburg, 21 August 1918 - reference to Adv.Katzenstein of Vryheid. With several autograph additions, one in English from the British Vice-Consul, and a penned note from Katzenstein that that it was received by post on 14th. November 1913. 9. 2pp. surveyor\'s Stand plan Erf 128 Vrijheid, drawn 1n 1884 but subsequently rubber stamped 21 April 1927. A fascinating lot most important for the Louis Botha document signed twice by him. Botha\'s autograph is fairly scarce. Further information available on request.
