Lucian Freud, 1922-2011. The dj blurb refers to the poetry as "simple, spontaneous, lyrical, fantastic, satiric,...showing a well-developed social sense and a knowledge of contemporary affairs," adding that the "drawings , in the same mood, are by the young painter, Lucian Freud." "I just used to read them and look for words I liked. Animals and so on. Definitely done for the money: I got l40 in cash." All the same, this work stands as the first book fully illustrated by Freud. "I designed it all: the jacket and the binding yellow and black on the front black and yellow in reverse on the back." (Quotes from The Lives of Lucian Freud Vol. 1, by William Feaver/ Knopf 2019.)
