An uncommon book item - originally intended as an entrance ticket and programme to a sports event over the Easter Weekend in April 1939. The Lüderitzbucht Männer Turn Verein was an offspring of the Windhoek Turn Verein which was based in the Turnhalle - later to be noted for the political negotiations at independence.
The cover says it all - the large swastika on the cover proclaims this to be a celebration of Hitlerian "Kraft durch Freude" and the elaborate programme includes a triumphal train bearing district dignitaries, arrivals by sea from Swakopmund of other noteworthies, boat trips, concerts, balls, parades and several 'dedication ceremonies'.
Since this was some months before the outbreak of war, the South African government still permitted this overt support for the Nazi regime in Germany. German text.
110 pp of historical and other articles with numerous portraits, the programme of festivities, bw photos and ads - bears the name of the ticket-holder on title page.
Good condition in wraps, but some loss on spine; slight damp mark on edge of textblock.
