The Boer War. Colour Lantern Slides of 1900. Chapters #1 - #4. Glass slides, with colour pictures of scenes from the Anglo-Boer War up to the entrance of the British Army into Bloemfontein. The images first appeared in “The Sphere” weekly magazine (in black & white) & were coloured specially for the slides. 30 of 32 slides, (size: approx. 82 mm x 82 mm), missing nos. #18 “Belmont” & #25 “Lord Roberts.” The slides are numbered top left. 30 beautiful colour slides showing important & famous incidents, including troops trekking, engagements, scouting, battles & the like.
Chapter 1 - The Boer Invasion of Natal. Chapter 2 - The Siege of Ladysmith. Chapter 3 - The Relief of Kimberley. Chapter 4 - Surrender of Cronje & Occupation of Bloemfontein. Chapter 5 - Relief of Mafeking and entry into Pretoria (Not present) There is no viewer present, but a bright light shows the slides off well & they are very clear (see our photographic images). A fifth chapter containing slides #33 - #40, taking the War up to Pretoria, is not present.

Included in this lot is the original small cardboard box for Chapter 1. “The Boer Invasion of Natal.” Price 2’6 per set, 8 slides …. With Lecture. Originally each chapter would have been contained in a box.
Included in this lot is a booklet The Boer War of 1900. Lantern Lecture giving a descriptive reading of all the principal incidents and events connected with the War from the Invasion of Natal to the Triumphant Entry into Pretoria. London, W.B[utcher] & Son, (c. 1900). 8vo. Printer wrappers. Pp. 12. Contains descriptions of all 40 slides, chapter-by-chapter, each slide described, with title & details of the picture. A properly printed & published pamphlet, this booklet is seldom found with the slides & is very scarce indeed.
The cardboard box for Chapter #1 is broken & repaired with tape, the text on the lid is rubbed, but quite legible. The pamphlet has been folded down the middle & the wrappers are detached, but present. The slides are in very good condition, with the wrap-around paper edging somewhat worn in some cases, backing glass of slide #27 cracked & repaired. Some slight rubbing of some of the images, a couple of small scratches.
