A Festschrift for Gandhi presented to him on his Seventieth Birthday. 382pp. From the library of R.F. Alfred Hoernle with his ownership signature dated 1939 on the front free endpaper. Hoernle was Professor of Philosophy at the University of the Witwatersrand and notably one of the contributors to this book (pp. 114 - 120) making this an interesting association copy. Further contributors include Jan Smuts, J.H. Hofmeyr, Rabindranath Tagore, Pearl Buck and many others. A 36pp. Appendix contains extracts from Gandhi's speeches and writings. The first edition of this work is very scarce, particularly in the dustwrapper. There is some offsetting to the endpapers, otherwise the book is in fine unmarked and unfoxed condition in the original embossed beige cloth. The dustwrapper is very good and not price-clipped with a few edge chips, a 2cm. closed tear of the lower edge of the rear panel and some age soiling. A very nice and interesting copy of this scarce work.
