In 1901 Commandant Wynand Malan attacked the isolated Northern Cape Village of Richmond, on two occasions. He was opposed by the determined magistrate, George James Boyes, who with the Town Guards, supported by garrison troops, fought off the commando.
The book includes information on 340 members of Malan's Commando, the names of 151 Town Guards and Richmond Rebels not in Malan's Commando.
