If I were to make really adequate mention of the kindness of all those who have helped the author in connexion with my work in the New Hebrides, this Preface would be disproportionately long. The reader must realize that the few words which follow are tokens of very real gratitude.
His two visits to the New Hebrides were partly financed by the Trusteees of the Percy Sladen Memorial Fund and by my mother and brother.
