First edition. xii, 419 pages, profusely illustrated with black and white drawings, red cloth with gilt vignette of a wildebeest on the upper cover, titled gilt on the spine which is faded and starting to wear at the top and bottom of the spine, top edge gilt, uncut edges, corners slightly bumped, a very good copy.

Inscription at the top of the title page reads: Mrs Thomson with J Bland Sutton's sincerest wishes.

Czech (Dr. Kenneth) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 – 1999, page 28 - 29: Travelling from Mombasa to the Victorian Nyanza and through the Great Rift Valley, the author describes the habitats and peoples, such as the Masai and Akikuyu, of the region. He also includes notes of the big game animals likely to be encountered in the area, including chapters on the lion, various antelopes, the hippo etc. As for his own hunting experiences he notes hunting reedbuck, topi and warthog in the Lake Nakuru region.
