This is the scarce revised second South African edition of Fatima Meer's biography of Nelson Mandela, co-authored to a great extent by Winnie Mandela, and preceding the American edition by two years. Contains many black and white photographs of life under Apartheid, ANC rallies, Winnie Mandela, etc..."MANDELA" is a revised and extended version of Higher Than Hope published on Mandela's seventieth birthday in 1988. The first, Higher Than Hope, was written without any interviews with Mandela, and Mandela himself saw the book six months after publication. This revised second edition has the benefit of contact with the subject and bears the imprint of Nelson Mandela who spent considerable time correcting the first edition. More importantly, it includes several new chapters based on personal interviews with him, 472pp. Extensive index, Mandela family tree, and 'Mandela Milestones' section.
