The story of people who trekked in the 1890s from Natal, Transvaal, OFS and the Cape to secure Eastern Rhodesia (Gazaland) from Portuguese occupation. Initiated by Dunbar and Tom Moodie, the migration included many Boer families in search of good farm land. The author describes the Trekkers, their courage and resilience and how they overcame enormous odds in their search for a new home. Originally published in Afrikaans in 1943 as Die Pioniertrekke na Gazaland. This is the first publication of the author's own English translation in October 1957. Pages 1-170. Nine photographs of some of the Trekkers. Appendix 1-10 background information including the names of Trekkers who arrived in Gazaland. Yellow paper-covered boards with green titles on spine. A small stain at the base of the spine. Dust jacket in fair condition with two small tears, some missing bits on spine, internally foxed. Illustrated with dramatic scene of a wagon stuck in a drift. The binding is sound, but all pages are browned. SP or CP? The author's name is given correctly on the Dust Cover as SP Olivier but on the title page and at the end of the introduction it is erroneously CP Olivier. This error was corrected in the next edition (1975).
