Large 4to; original brown boards, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover; laminated pictorial dustwrapper; decorative endpapers; pp. 299; liberally illustrated with reproductions of contemporary artwork, photographs and maps, along with modern maps and full-colour photographs of the artefacts, digs and individuals associated with them. Fine condition.

Uncommon, spectacular book. "Mapungubwe Remembered is the most comprehensive illustrated book and is the first of its kind to be compiled about the history, research and contributions of the University of Pretoria to Mapungubwe. It is a historical, contemporary narrative and photographic record, featuring more than 400 photographs from the Mapungubwe Museum archives from 1933 to date. It is an overview of research by twenty authors, mostly staff and alumni of the University of Pretoria. The thematic chapters reflect their views, work and personal narratives on highlights such as the early pioneers, the discovery and the landscape, research of the archaeological collection, and of Mapungubwe as viewed in the 21st century."
