Exceedinigly scarce portfolio of 10 prints/reproductions of this important and promising black South African artist who was tragically murdered in Alexandra Township at the age of 19. This is no. 23 of only 50 copies issued. It is in large folio format (59x46cms.)and comprises 10 loose leaf prints (individually numbered and with the Goodman Gallery logo blindstamped on the lower left corner of the print),enclosed in a printed paper and board portfolio. Nine of the prints are of black and white drawings and the tenth is a coloured print. The front wrapper has a vertical crease along its length and some soiling and superficial fishtracking. Internally the prints are all fine with the tissue guards as issued. This portfolio is one of the first publications of the Goodman Gallery who have subsequently produced many wonderful portfolios and books. It is the only work devoted to Julian Motau himself although he features in most general South African Art books. As this is a large item, postage abroad might be a problem and will be fairly expensive.
