Second edition: 313 + [3] pages, frontispiece portrait of the author, signed by him, map on endpapers, 16 plates, numerous line drawings, original green cloth with faded gilt vignettes on the upper cover and spine, a good copy.

Loosely inserted is a small photograph of Charles Astley-Maberley and a Xmas card to the owner of this book also signed by him

Czech (K.) An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785-1999 page 307: Foreword by J. Stevenson-Hamilton. Wolhuter recounts his 44 years spent as a game ranger in the Kruger National Park dealing with poachers, rogues and wild game in general. Perhaps the most famous incident occurred when he was forced to kill a lion with a knife as the beast dragged him away.
