Mendelssohn (1860-1917), a diamond dealer, accumulated an extensive Africana library, which he left to South Africa and today forms the basis of the Library of Parliament. This bibliography's value lies in his perceptive comments on the books and represents his generation's views of South African history.

A cornerstone of any Africana collection.
