Album of De Beers diamond compound in South Africa of 1880’s in the city of Kimberley.
The collection includes 26 albumen photos featuring the workers of the compound, the mine, the firm with machinery (marked Booth & Bros engineers), the local market full of people and some views of the city and surrounding areas.

The album comes from North Europe. All photos have been covered by a white leaf of paper, maybe an attempt to hide them during the travel from South Africa. Apparently an early attempt of industrial espionage or a moral issue due to slavery.
Four photos has been damaged when removing the paper, one of them is the view of De Beer compound.
