687 pages, folding lithographic frontispiece of Victoria Falls by W. West, portrait, 1 other double-tinted lithograph by West, 1 single tinted lithograph from a sketch by C. Bell and printed by West, 42 wood engraved plates and other illustrations (including a folding geological cross section of south central Africa), 2 folding maps by Arrowsmith bound in at the end, recently bound in full red leather with black title labels on the spine, marbled endpapers and edges. Tear in the lower margin of the folding frontispiece reaching the title but not the printed area, snag in the gutter between the title and dedication pages, plate at page 225 foxed otherwise the contents are bright. Overall a good copy.
The scarce Bradlow variant 1. Bradlow quotes research done by Gaston Renard, Bookseller, who lists this variant as the first issue although he does remark that this 'is not yet proved'. In our experience this issue is the most uncommon.
