(Czech, p. 147) "Jordan recounts his numerous adventures in Tanzania, Kenya, the Congo, and other locales while hunting elephants, lions, buffalo and other game. He also details the experiences of other hunters." - Kenneth Czech: An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785-1999

DESCRIPTIONS OF THE OTHER TWO BOOKS FOLLOW:

1. Stoneham, C. T.: Big Stuff: African Big Game and its Hunters (London: John Long, 1954) First edition. 8vo; original green boards, lettered in gilt on spine; pictorial dustwrapper; pp. 191, incl. index; plates. Dustwrapper a little rubbed with trace of edgewear; earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper; moderate foxing. Good condition.

(Czech, p. 271) "Stoneham primarily uses the experiences of Selous, Neumann, Vaughan Kirby, and other old Africa hands in constructing this view of big game hunting." - Kenneth Czech: An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785-1999. "The lure of big-game! For the adventurous it is as potent as ever. Here is a new kind of book on the subject by a hunter-naturalist whose experience of wild Africa dates from the early part of the century. ... C. T. Stoneham introduces you to this land of enchantment with the knowledge he has gained in a lifetime of study and adventure."

2. Bethell, Alfred J.: Notes on South African Hunting and Notes on a Ride to the Victoria Falls of the Zambesi (Bulawayo: Books of Rhodesia, 1976) Rhodesiana Reprint Library, Silver Series, Volume Seven, which is a text facsimile of the 1887 edition. 8vo; original green boards, lettered in gilt on spine and upper cover; pictorial dustwrapper; pp. (xxii) + 94 + (ii) + 20 + (x); frontis. portrait and further plates; folding map; original publisher's adverts. Merest trace of edgewear to dustwrapper; some fox spots to edges, endpapers and outermost leaves. Very good condition.

Czech writes concerning the first edition, of which this is a facsimile: "Bethell's narrative is actually derived from several articles appearing in the British sporting periodical The Field, and is quite scarce in the original wraps edition. Bethell and his hunting companion rode to the Victoria Falls of the Zambesi River via rarely traveled roads through Bechuanaland and Matabeleland. While he describes the battery a hunter should bring, his own hunting adventures are rather sparse consisting of shooting ostrich and giraffe. He also details several of Frederick Selous' exploits." - Kenneth Czech: An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books, 1785-1999, p. 26
