The author was a fervent admirer of Col. A W Durnford, and chronicles six months of life with the gallant soldier in Natal after the Langalibalele rebellion, in the guise of a young soldier.

In slightly scuffed half-calf and khaki cloth, with marbled endpapers and all edges marbled. The book is in very good, tight condition, with only sporadic light foxing on a few pages.
