xv plus 432pp. Original blue pictorial cloth. With illustrations.

Cloth is edge-worn. Gilt faded. Reinforced spine hinges. Inscription to front free EP. A few age-related marks scattered here and there throughout text, but otherwise generally a good clean copy.

Stanley's adventure novel for boys based loosely on the personal history of his young protégé, Kalulu. It is a romance based upon knowledge acquired during his journey in search of Dr. Livingstone, which began in 1871 and terminated in 1872. The book was written after the failure of his first lecture tour to America in 1872, and is dedicated to all those who have aided to the suppression of slavery on the east coast of Africa. The people and places, the geography and cartography are correct. Everything written within is possible, nay, much of the book contains facts which Stanley witnessed himself, or which had come to his knowledge.
