How it works

Register

Owen directed the operations  from the Cape initially, and worked his way up the East coast. The expedition was undertaken to survey the entire coast of Africa and southern Arabia for a period of some four years. His meticulous work laid the foundation for what we know about the geography to this day. He also had much interaction with the inhabitants of the ports and islands along the coast, which makes the volumes an interesting read.

434 + 420 pp with two frontispieces, 2 plates and three large folding maps. In contemporary half calf with marbled paper-covered board. Some light foxing on rear endpaper in both books and both plates; two pages have a heavy black line drawn in the margin, otherwise excellent clean condition, all edges marbled. Bookplate and name on endpapers.
