Before and since the European War and the Boer Rebellion.

xxxii + 352 pages, frontispiece portraits of the author and his wife, brown cloth, presentation inscription on the front free enpaper, a very good copy.

The second edition with Plaatje\'s critical analysis of the Report of the Lands Commission, included at the beginning of the book. He writes, \'During the past two years while the Empire was involved in one of the mightiest struggles that ever shook the foundations of the earth, South Africa was wasting time and money in a useless and unprecedented attempt at territorial segregation betwixt white and black. Judging by the recently published Report of the Land Commission, however, she failed ignominiously in the task.\'

The presentation inscription reads, ‘Mr Wm. Ward. With the author’s compliments & pleasant recollections of helpful hours at 37 Norfolk Street. Sol T. Plaatje, Box 143, Kimberley, South Africa.’

On page 225 William Ward is stated as being National Secretary of the National Brotherhood Council, Norfolk Street, Strand. The Brotherhood Council opposed the Native Land Act and assisted Plaatje and the delegation of the South African Native National Council (later the ANC) which had travelled to England in 1914 to campaign against the Act.
