First edition: 287 pages, frontispiece, 1 plate, original red pictorial cloth, foxing on the preliminary pages and on the page edges, corners slightly bumped, a good copy.

The inscription on the front paste down end paper reads: To Dorothea .. with love from the author 3 – 7 /16.

A South African Bibliography volume 3 page 536. One copy listed.

According to the preface (written in the third person with reference to the author as “he”) this account of the New Zealand Contingents in South Africa is largely due to the writings of others in private letters and the public press. The final chapter is an account of the vain attempt of the Maoris to be allowed to join the white contingents sent to South Africa.
