 12 vintage mystery and suspense books, mixed originals and re-prints, some first editions, all hard cover with jackets; jackets have moderate to heavy wear but in general present well.  See images.

Included are: 

Kersh, Gerald.  Night City.  Simon and Schuster, 4th printing. (1946).  Jacket corners and spine ends chipped.  Has a Cockney slang glossary. 

Chalmers, Stephen.  The Whispering Ghost.  NY: Caxton House, 1939.  Jacket Art by A. Brodovitch.  Heavy edge wear. 

Jepson, Edgar.  The Emerald Tide. NY: Burt, reprint edition.  Jacket Art signed Hornung.  Loss at corners but somehow still mesmerizing. 

Masterman, Walter. S. The Wrong Verdict. NY: Dutton, 1938. First edition.  Lending library copy with usual wear and markings, jacket flaps pasted to inside covers; jacket spin split at hinge.  Charming even if worn out, with a row of date stamps on rear endpaper, 1939-1941.  Mylar has all peeled off.

Burrough, R. J.  Smiley Adams.  Illustrated by George Avison.  NY: G&D, (1942).  Reprint edition in slightly chipped jacket. 

Wallace, Edgar.  When the Gang Came to Town.  NY: Burt, 1942. Reprint; red cloth, black stripes; jacket edges chipped and torn, sone loss.

— —. The Melody of Death.  NY: Burt, reprint edition.  Lacking endpaper at front.  Jacket chipped with sone loss, flap crease split.  Clever Deco design showing a languorous Death bowing a stringed instrument with a scythe-shaped bow. 

Bentley, John. Mr. Marlow Stops for Brandy. Boston: Houghton Mifflin company, 1940. First edition. Jacket in early mylar, and papers stamped “property of American lending library, Inc., College point, L. I. “Yellowing tape at pastedown‘s and end papers, back inside cover has early bookshop stamp. Remove the mylar and the jacket, even with edgewear,  looks like it should be in good condition. 

Grierson, Francis.  Thrice Judas.  Eyre and Spottiswoode, 1942. Verso of jacket has tape reinforcement along edges; chipping and general wear.

Coxe, George Harmon.  The Groom Lay Dead. NY: Triangle Books (1947).  Jacket had edgewear and chipping.  Endpaper corner clipped. Paper had toned.
